Proud of my Effort

I have great pride in being an Army hand surgeon. The father of hand surgery, Sterling Bunnell, served in World War I on the Western Front. He later closed is private practice to serve as a consultant to the surgeon general during World War II. (How many surgeons would give up a lucrative private practice to serve the military today?) Several of his pupils would go on to serve as presidents of the ASSH. Sometimes I imagine how our nation, my grandparents, must have felt during World War II – when our freedom and way of life was at risk. How would life be today if we did not sink 3 of 4 Japanese carriers in 8 minutes during the battle of Midway? While I do not feel worthy of sharing the same profession, Army hand surgeon, as Drs. Kanavel, Bunnell, Curtis, and Riordan – I am proud to give my best effort for our great country.
