Unfinished Business

By Manohar Arumugam, MBBS, MS Ortho

We are all busy with our practice. Our practice can vary from solo private practice to practicing at academic institutions. No matter where we practice, time is never enough. There are many activities related to work that we want to do but are not able to do. It is common to hear everyone talking about their bucket list, a term which gained popularity after the 2007 movie The Bucket List where Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson played the role of two characters who were dying of cancer who created a bucket list of things to do before they died, which they completed. Similarly, we should have a bucket list for our career, a list of things that we would like to accomplish before we end our careers. My bucket list includes writing a book, designing a new device, and developing a new surgical technique, to mention a few. The recent lockdown due to Covid-19 did allow me to plan and set my priorities. The topmost priority for me is to build a good network of friends internationally to exchange ideas and experiences in hand surgery and to enhance friendship. Each country is unique. It is important for us to have a bucket list for our career.
