My perspective as a female hand surgeon who has been in practice for about four years now is to simply say a “thank you” to all the women surgeons who led the way and who have made my path a whole lot easier to navigate by providing examples of what women can do both in and out of the operating room. The world around us is moving forward and I am proud to say that occasional instances where I have heard negative comments related specifically to my gender are far outweighed by the positive support from patients, colleagues and staff and that’s what I choose to focus on.
